One Battle After Another dominated the 98th Academy Awards on March 15 at the Dolby Theatre, taking six Oscars from 13 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director for Paul Thomas Anderson.

Anderson's black comedy, which follows a former revolutionary fighting to save his daughter and features Leonardo DiCaprio and Teyana Taylor in its ensemble, also won Best Adapted Screenplay, Film Editing and Best Casting; the first year the Academy presented that category, with the trophy going to Cassandra Kulukundis.

The Acting Winners

Michael B. Jordan won Best Actor for Sinners, and Jessie Buckley took Best Actress. Amy Madigan won Best Supporting Actress. The ceremony's presenters included a roster of past winners tapped to hand out the night's biggest prizes.

A Season Closed at Last

The win capped an awards season that had begun with the Grammys a month earlier and run through a winter of box-office hits and campaign drama. Anderson, long regarded as among American cinema's essential directors, finally has the Best Picture Oscar his filmography had been circling for two decades.

The Academy also used the broadcast to preview its expanded museum programming, a year-round strategy to keep cinema's biggest night connected to an audience that now discovers films on a dozen platforms.
